China is opening a 2,000-bed drug rehab center near Beijing as the centerpiece of its effort to combat narcotics addiction. The center features relatively inexpensive treatments - US$1,000 for a three-month stay; spacious grounds; and no interrogations. Beijing police estimate the city of 5.9 million has 22,000 drug addicts.
