Women's Law Upheld

US District Judge James Jarvis of Tennessee upheld the constitutionality of the oft-challenged 1994 Violence Against Women Act in the case of a woman suing her husband for rape. Jarvis said that although he was concerned the statute has opened the floodgates to spousal litigation, Congress had a rational basis to assert its power over interstate commerce in enacting the law.
