The United States isn't happy with the French firm Total's announcement that it has signed a US$2 billion contract to develop natural gas fields in Iran. But after noting its objections - and receiving a stern rebuke from the EU - the White House late today moved to calm the waters, saying it would "take some time" to evaluate whether sanctions might be in order.
