Meat Recalls

Public-health activists, pointing to records that show the US Department of Agriculture has recalled 20 million pounds of tainted or mishandled meat since 1990 without telling the public, are pressing the government to publicize all such cases. The department defended its policy today by pointing out that the recalled meat was used in restaurants and hospitals, not sold retail, and thus was intercepted before it reached the public.
