Israel radio reported that Sheik Ahmed Yassin, the 61-year-old quadriplegic Hamas leader, was freed from jail in an exchange for two Mossad agents held in Jordan. The news was saluted by Arafat and the White House; in Israel, the start of the three-day Jewish New Year holiday may dampen hardliners' anticipated anger.
