A team of British speed demons, which exceeded the speed of sound with their Thrust SSC rocket car in Nevada's Black Rock Deserton Monday but failed to register an official record, today got their feat in the record books. Driver Andy Green - positioned to become the biggest British sports personality since ski jumper Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards - drove Thrust on supersonic runs of 759.333 and 766.609 mph in the officially decreed one-hour period.
