The National Basketball Association today became the first major American men's sports league to hire women as game officials. The two groundbreaking refs: Dee Kantner, 36, formerly supervisor of officials for the NBA subsidiary Women's National Basketball Association, and Violet Palmer, 33, an official in the women's league.
