Sara Lister, assistant Army secretary for manpower and reserve affairs, has quit her post after her remarks about Marines - she characterized them as "extremists ... at risk of total disconnection with society" - touched off a fierce counterattack from the Corps and such non-veterans as Gingrich. Gen. Charles Krulak, the Marine commandant, branded Lister's statement an insult to all Leathernecks.
