The Nikkei surged again today, the 225 index gaining nearly 3 percent, but it held little of the cataclysmic effect it did Monday. In late-afternoon trading, Frankfurt's DAX was up 1 percent and London's FTSE 100 was down 0.6; and in late-morning activity in New York, the Dow and Nasdaq were virtually unchanged.
