Japan's two-day rally ended in a big way today, with the Nikkei benchmark index falling 5.5 percent. Hong Kong also fell, though only 1 percent. Europe opened sharply lower, but bounced back: London's FTSE 100 lost 0.3 percent and Frankfurt's DAX was unchanged. In New York, the Dow finished up 73.92 to 7724.74, and the Nasdaq rose 0.78 to 1601.22.
