John Edward Armstrong, an ex-con and murder suspect who held Orlando, Florida, police at bay for three days and swore not to return to prison, made good on that vow. Police raided an apartment where Armstrong had held a two-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy hostage since Tuesday. Officers, who struck after detecting Armstrong had fallen asleep, shot him to death after a brief struggle. The children were unharmed.
