Market Update

Stocks were sharply lower in early trading today thanks to the turmoil in Asian markets. Tech stocks followed suit, with the Nasdaq down nearly 2 percent and Oracle crying that the slower Asian demand contributed to its sad quarterly earnings. Oracle has recovered about 1.5 percent (to US$23 per share). In midmorning, the Dow was off by 105.93 points at 7872.86 after Wednesday's 71-point slide. Elsewhere, Tokyo's Nikkei fell 1.4 percent, Frankfurt's DAX lost 2.1 percent, and London's FTSE fell by 80 points.
