Schindler's Widow

Argentina has granted the widow of Oskar Schindler, the German industrialist and playboy who rescued more than 1,000 Jews from the Nazi Holocaust, a US$1,000 per month pension in hopes of lifting her from a life of poverty. The 90-year-old Emilie Schindler lived in Argentina in anonymity for 50 years before director Steven Spielberg told her husband's story in Schindler's List. Emilie has portrayed her husband as a ruthless man whose main interest in saving Jews from death camps was to ensure a supply of cheap labor.
