With Internet guides already up and running in a dozen countries, Yahoo Inc. launched its latest in Italy on Wednesday. Yahoo Italy will include more than 7,000 Italian Web sites and will link to the main Yahoo site, as well its sister sites around the world.
The guide will also feature Yahoo Notizie (Yahoo News), replete with stories on Italian politics, local and international news, and sports through continuous news feeds from Italian media partners Ansa, La Gazetta dello Sport OnLine, and Reuters. Financial news, including quotes from the Milan Stock Exchange, local weather, and people search functions will all be found on Yahoo Italy.
Yahoo Inc.’s global properties include Net guides in the UK and Ireland, Germany, France, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Canada, Japan, Korea, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
And on Tuesday, Yahoo introduced Yahoo Computers, a new Web site providing computer news, forums, and shopping. The company said the new site is designed to combine much of the computer-related content that already appears on different Yahoo sites with additional new services to create a single area covering one of the most popular topics in the Yahoo directory.
The site will include news that is updated several times a day, industry rumors and content from Reuters, Wired, Ziff-Davis and others, as well as options to download new software, see listings of upcoming Net events, and even get answers to computing questions from a help desk.
Yahoo also reached an agreement Tuesday for Onsale Inc to become its main auction content provider. Onsale sells a variety of merchandise, from computer electronics to specialty foods and time shares, through auctions conducted over the Internet.
