The Cincinnati Enquirer has issued a front-page apology to Chiquita Brands International and agreed to pay US$10 million in damages for printing untrue articles about the fruit giant. The Gannett-owned newspaper also fired its chief investigative reporter as a result of the articles, which questioned the business practices of the world's biggest distributor of bananas. The Enquirer said Sunday the articles were based on illegally obtained voice mail messages.
