Wells Fargo and Norwest have agreed to a US$34 billion deal to combine two of the leading banks in the West and Midwest and further consolidate the US banking industry. The deal, pending regulators' approval, would create the sixth largest bank, with $191 billion in assets and operations in 21 states stretching from California to Ohio.
