Honda Hit

Honda Motor Corp. has been ordered by the government to pay US$17.1 million in fines and restitution for having disconnected pollution-monitoring devices in 1.6 million cars. The Associated Press reports that Honda has agreed to pay $12.6 million in civil penalties -- in the largest enforcement action of the Clean Air Act -- and $4.5 million to implement various environmental projects. The automaker reportedly will extend warranties on certain models and provide free tuneups. Honda had no comment pending an announcement by the Justice Department later today.
