Stocks fell sharply for a second straight day on fears that a Japanese recession will bite deeply into the American economy and corporate profits. The Dow, which lost 160.43 on Thursday, was off more than 75 points by midday. The Nasdaq was off more than 30 following Thursday's 23.50 point loss.
