Asia: The yen's continuing deterioration brought the Nikkei down 2.12 percent. The Hang Seng lost 1.17 percent. Europe: Germany took a holiday, but Britain and France were being battered by Asian and American losses. Britain was down 0.82 percent. France was off 0.51 percent.
