Serbs Gain Key Mine

Serbs have been victorious in their two-day mortar-and-tank offensive on a coal mine held by Albanian rebels in Kosovo. The attack just west of the provincial capital sent more than 8,000 people in Belaveac and neighboring villages fleeing for safety in the woods. Tuesday afternoon, the Serb-led Yugoslav army and Serb police seized the open-pit mine, which helps supply electricity for most of the Serb province. The Kosovo Liberation Army captured the mine last week.
