US Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist today rejected a last-minute appeal from the Justice Department to shield Secret Service agents from answering questions about the president's relationship with former White House aide Monica Lewinsky. The agents will begin testifying immediately before a grand jury summoned by independent counsel Kenneth Starr to investigate, among other allegations, whether Clinton lied under oath when he denied having sex with Lewinsky.
