Bubbly on Hold

Strong winds scrubbed Tuesday's mission to recover 90-year-old champagne and cognac from a Baltic Sea wreck. Searchers are after 5,000 bottles of 1907 Heidsieck & Co. champagne and several dozen casks of cognac and wine that in 1916 were bound for the Russian army, stationed in Finland, when the ship was torpedoed by a German U-boat. Bottles already sampled were perfectly preserved by the cold and dark Baltic Sea, and may be worth US$3,000 apiece.
