The Pentagon responded today to a congressional warning that rogue nations' ballistic missiles could sneak through and strike US soil. Its position: Let 'em try; we've got the muscle. The Pentagon stood by its plans to deploy a limited national missile defense program by 2003, and until then and even after, a spokesman said, "we will depend on what we have for the last 50 years, which is a very substantial conventional and nuclear deterrent force to discourage anybody from taking action against us."
