Strike Arbitration

The United Auto Workers today agreed to let an independent arbitrator decide whether its month-long strike against General Motors is legal under the UAW-GM contract. US District Judge Paul V. Gadola said he'd hold both sides to their word, and asked them to be back in his courtroom on Tuesday to report on progress in scheduling a meeting with an arbitrator. Gadola said he would retain jurisdiction, but didn't think it was necessary to intervene at this time.
