Syrian Skeleton

A Nazi fugitive, believed to have been living in Syria for decades now, has emerged as a sticking point as France attempts to integrate Syria into the Middle East peace process. French President Chirac says he believes a lasting peace in the region is impossible without Syrian participation. But he also believes that Syria has been harboring Alois Brunner, accused of sending 100,000 French Jews to their deaths as commandant of the Drancy transit camp outside of Paris, and wants him back. Syria's Assad, in Paris on a state visit, promised to "look into the matter."
