Hurricane Havoc

Rains were heavy and winds swirled at over 70 miles per hour just after dawn, but the worst of Hurricane Georges was expected to hit the southern tip of Florida later Friday morning. Forecasters were particularly fearful for the low-lying Keys, where many residents ignored calls to evacuate. Georges killed some 250 people on its trek through the Caribbean, and after winging Florida was expected to gather strength over the Gulf of Mexico and take aim at the US Gulf Coast.
