Renewed fighting in the Kosovo region of fractured Yugoslavia on Wednesday sent hundreds more ethnic Albanian refugees to the village of Cirez, one of last rebel strongholds. Cirez is already choked with 15,000 people who have escaped Serbian soldiers since August. Food and medical supplies are scarce, and relief workers fear the incipient winter will further hinder their efforts. Another 10,000 refugees have evacuated to Bosnia, which is still recovering from its own brutal war with Serbia.
