Market Update

US stocks were solidly higher in late Tuesday trading as several big companies reported better-than-expected third-quarter results, raising optimism that the world's economic troubles have had little effect on US companies. The Wired Index rose 9.64 to 386.85, the Dow surged 167.36 to 8633.81, and the Nasdaq gained 34.35 to 1683.08.
