US stocks gained in late Monday trading after AT&T and others reported better-than-expected earnings. The Wired Index rose 17.65 to 391.45, the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 41.20 to 8493.49, and the Nasdaq gained 24.06 to 1717.92. Europe: The UK's FTSE rose 14.40 to 5231.50, Germany's DAX surged 126.65 to 4577.74, and France's CAC 40 rose 55.72 to 3449.48.
