Time's Up at Netly News

Time Digital Daily absorbs the Netly News technology news service on the Time Warner Pathfinder site.

Time Warner on Thursday quietly shut down Netly News, melding the operations of its Internet-beat news service and the online version of Time Digital.

Three-year-old Netly News was created by new media journalists Josh Quittner and Noah Robischon. The site specialized in covering how technology affected culture and politics. With its irreverent, insider voice, Netly News had plenty of fans in the new media industry.

A former Netly News staff member said Pathfinder executives had been slowly merging the Netly News and Time Digital brands for months. The site was redesigned this summer to feature the red Time.com logo, and in September the site became Time Digital's Netly News. On Thursday it became Time Digital Daily with a small tagline reading "formerly the Netly News."

At its height, Netly News had a staff of six reporters plus two columnists. The new site will feature more product reviews, the staff member said.

Time Digital is a sister publication to the weekly news magazine that concentrates on technology. It's published about 10 times a year.
