EMediaweekly Shuts Down

Mac Publishing shutters its Mac-foused magazine and Web site. Apparently, the short-lived effort wasn't profitable enough.

Publishers Ziff-Davis and International Data Group on Thursday shut down eMediaweekly, their joint-venture magazine and Web site.

The magazine reached a controlled circulation of 85,000 digital-media managers across North America, targeting businesses that publish on multiple platforms, including traditional print, the Web, and multimedia.

Publishers blamed the newsweekly's demise on tough market conditions.

"Computer publications across the industry had a difficult year in 1998, and we have seen indications 1999 will be no easier," said Colin Crawford, president and CEO of Mac Publishing and eMediaweekly publisher.

In its six-month life span, eMediaweekly failed to generate the advertising revenue publishers had hoped for.

Although eMediaweekly garnered good reviews from readers, Crawford said, it seemed that "the digital-publishing market isn't mature enough to sustain a newsweekly at this time."

The magazine's current issue, published 1 February, will be its last, he said.

Mac Publishing also produces the monthly magazine Macworld and the Web site Macworld Online. The company is located in San Francisco.
