Continuing a strategy of bypassing export restrictions, a San Mateo, California crypto software company opened a European sales and support office Tuesday.
RSA Data Security's new division will market and sell encryption software components developed by the company's Australian development shop, which opened in January.
"RSA's efforts to go global are gathering momentum, and the success of our European-based organization will be central to our gaining a foothold in this part of the world," said Scott Schnell, RSA's senior vice president, in a statement.
Code hacked at RSA Data Security Australia is not subject to strict US government rules that domestic security software companies say places them at a disadvantage against foreign competitors. The restrictions are intended to stop the spread of encryption, which US intelligence agencies worry will allow terrorists and hostile nations to communciate in secret.
RSA's Europe, Middle East, and Africa office is based in Wokingham, England.
