Here's irony for you. After being closed for two years for repairs following a 1997 earthquake, the basilica in Assisi, Italy containing the earthly remains of St. Francis reopened to tourists Sunday. Two-legged tourists only, however. Along with banning miniskirts, shorts, and cell phones (thank God), authorities also put up signs barring dogs from entering the basilica. Animal lovers are outraged and we can only assume St. Francis is none too pleased. He is, after all, the patron saint of animals.
