Subject: vaporware
I'm writing to comment on the Wired News Vaporware awards ("Vaporware '99: The 'Winners'," 3.Jan.2000).
I'm not exactly sure what the complaint is. Journalists and users are both interested in finding out about future software. Journalists and users both complain when products are rushed to market in beta condition. And, journalists and users both complain when new products don't get released when they're expected. I'm sure that the vaporware game is sometimes played to torpedo the competition, but certainly not always. "Wah ... they lied to us and now I can't play with the new toy they promised." I guess the complaint is: Things should be different!
