The controversial Web site, www.etoy.com, was finally reactivated over the weekend by Network Solutions, bringing to a close the domain-name fight between the Swiss Internet artists and the American toyseller, eToys.
The Zurich-based artists of etoy were glad to have the site back, but complained about the way NSI made the move.
A spokesman for NSI had said the "hold" on the domain name would be lifted "once the court orders Network Solutions to do so." But it would violate California court procedure for the Los Angeles Superior Court judge who earlier issued an injunction to issue any additional orders and in the end, NSI acted without receiving one.
"NSI finally reinstalled the etoy.dns ... without waiting any longer for the legendary court order they talked about during the last weeks to delay this essential step!" read an etoy statement.
Right now, the site is set up as a redirect to another site that has nothing except for a very simple statement. What etoy will do with its newfound profile remains to be seen.
Last week, it took action against the Austrian government, freezing the government's extensive holdings in etoy shares because of the new government coalition that includes Jörg Haider’s Freedom Party.
The www.toywar.com site remains active. In fact, now that the etoy site is back up, plans are under way to celebrate.
"The TOYWAR.victory-parade and the nomination of the TOYWAR.heroes will take place on www.etoy.com (soon)," read the statement.
