Glenn Miller was at the height of his popularity when his small plane vanished over the English Channel in December 1944 while the bandleader was on his way to France to entertain Allied troops. No wreckage was ever found and the circumstances of his death have remained a mystery. Until now. The logbook of RAF flight engineer Derek Thurman provides evidence that Miller's plane was destroyed by British bombers jettisoning their payload over the Channel after aborting a night mission to Germany. According to Thurman, three members of his crew spotted a light aircraft beneath them just as the bombs were being dumped. The tail-gunner reported seeing the plane flip over and crash into the sea.
