Bowing to pressure, South Carolina legislators Thursday voted to remove the Confederate battle flag from the Statehouse dome and display it instead on a nearby monument honoring Confederate soldiers. Although the vote -- which came 139 years to the day that Confederate forces began the Civil War by firing on nearby Fort Sumter -- was seen as a compromise, the NAACP was not mollified and said it's tourism boycott of South Carolina would continue. The NAACP said it does not want the flag anywhere near the Statehouse.
