Subject: Security Awareness: I doubt it!

My company was completely down for four hours with the "I love you" virus, with portions down for several days. We are not using Win2K, however, I doubt my network managers know of the pitfalls. I appreciated your expose (New Love: A Whole Lot of Nothing? , May 19, 2000) and I am forwarding the article to them.

With the increased probability of security breaches, most folks expect software vendors to increase security. I expect the default to protect me, the consumer who paid good money for Microsoft products. I find it completely unacceptable that the default favors crooks.

It is this arrogance that propelled me to begin moving to Linux nearly one year ago. I suspect the trend will grow, especially among more technical users. Meanwhile, I'm sure folks are busy working on a plug-n-play Linux for non-tech users.
