Subject: Y2K Doom

I agree that the doomsayers were wrong, but only in the short term. ("Y2K Still Bugging Lawyers ," May. 22, 2000) All ofthe companies that I consult are having major problems with theirbackbone systems. You see, the people who brought us the Y2K bug were thesame people who made the "fixes," and are the same people continuing to do"fixes" today. These people use a fix-break methodology that is veryhealthy for their continued employment and very unhealthy for the systems.
So, the fixes they made last year are causing problems now. They are"fixing" these problems, causing more problems. Watch your bank statements,
credit card statements, utility bills, tax statements. There are errorseverywhere, and it will only get worse. The Y2K bug turned out to be aninsidious bug. It will get us sooner or later, and even worse than thecatastrophe.
