Subject: Genealogy Privacy

I am a genealogy researcher. I am so stunned by the ignorance shown by the representative from Indiana ("New Privacy Threat: Genealogy?," May 18, 2000) and hope that hewill have the good intelligence to check with the National Genealogy Society, the Indiana State Genealogy Society, and his home county genealogy organization.

Those of us doing research know that much of the information that we find on the Internet is not documented nor is it factual. It is a start for our research and really not much more. We have more dead ends than good leads.

Common sense, something Congressman Pease certainly is not using, guided me to use a password other than my mother's maiden name when I started doing my genealogy research. I certainly wish he were as zealous in protecting our rights in other matters. Hopefully, the voters in his district will let him know the error of his ways.
