Subject: 'Web' Band Debut Goes Bust

Maybe we should think of the success of this group differently ("'Web' Band Debut Goes Bust," Dec. 4, 2000). If your only criteria for success is CD sales, then how long was it before the Grateful Dead became successful. I think that most real musicians judge success by how many people hear and like their music. They judge success by how well they communicate their message, and perhaps, to how many people. It is easy to forget that music is art, not business. You, and too many others, really think that the only judgment of art (be it physical art, music, etc.) is how much money it earns.
