Subject: Verizon to Face Tumor Suits?
Please, tell me that these cases will get thrown out ("No Cancer? Too Early to Call," Dec. 21, 2000). The hoopla about cell phones causing cancer has been around as long as the cell phone. Yet, there is no definitive medical proof of the fact. The only reason anyone would be willing to take this to court is if they figured that the companies would settle out of court. The companies that I saw listed are not like the big, evil, infinitely deep pockets of the tobacco companies. They are simply companies that have snatched up a great business opportunity.
Consider that it took hundreds of years to show fairly and certainly the effects of cigarettes. We are far from that with cell phones. Anyone could claim that over exposure can cause cancer. I could probably sue Hitachi for radiation exposure for sitting in front of my monitor. It's about time something is done to rid ourselves of these frivolous lawsuits.
