Making no allowances for different types of music, the RIAA took every song of the 20th century that it could think of, threw them into a hopper and -- voila! -- out came a list of the top 365 songs of the century. The top five, working backwards: "American Pie" (Don McLean), "Respect" (Aretha Franklin), "This Land Is Your Land" (Woodie Guthrie), "White Christmas" (Bing Crosby) and ... "Over the Rainbow" (Judy Garland). Discuss.
