I Want to be Alone

Census department figures released Monday show that Alabamans are more likely to drive to work by themselves than anyone else in the United States. According to the stats, 84.6 percent of workers 16 and older drive to work alone. Michigan, with 83.7 percent, finished second. The reason? "People need the flexibility of being in their own car," said Ari Adler, a spokesman for the Michigan Department of Transportation. Heather Thomas, from Alabama's AAA chapter, concurred. "They are able to smoke. They are able to eat in the car. They are able to listen to their own kind of music." Hmm. Come to think of it, maybe they SHOULD ride alone.
