Subject: Heading MS Off at the Passport
(Heading MS Off at the Passport) mentions that "McNealy famously (said) in 1999, "You have zero privacy anyway – get over it."
That pretty much sums up Sun's approach. Microsoft seems to feel that privacy is an important thing to address and is trying to come up with a solution, Passport being just part of the attempt.
Sun is server-centric with cadres of technical minions that can, of course, read all your stuff. Microsoft is client-centric (consumer-centric) which means the empowerment of the edges of the network rather than the center.
