Pakistan: Osama Is Not Welcome

Pakistani officials say their country will not become a safe haven for Osama bin Laden or his associates if they try to flee Afghanistan in the face of U.S. attacks.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- Pakistan said Wednesday that it would not allow the country to become a safe have for Osama bin Laden or his associates if they try to flee Afghanistan in the face of U.S. attacks.

"We do not have any information about Osama bin laden or (other) leaders of al-Qaeda. I don't think they will be confident of finding a safe haven in Pakistan," foreign ministry spokesman Riaz Mohammad Khan told a news conference.

He said also that Pakistan was not prepared to join military action against Afghanistan itself.

"The fight is not against a people or a country. The fight is against terrorism," he said.

"Pakistan cannot join any hostile action against Afghanistan or the Afghan people."
