Subject: Making the Case for Pakistan

This is in reference to the following comment made in your article "Making the Case for Pakistan" (September 27, 2001). "Complicating the situation are Pakistan's military leaders, who warned on Tuesday that the U.S. must not ally itself with anti-Taliban rebels in Afghanistan. Those militia groups are linked with India, Pakistan's archrival."

I would like to point out that India has never been linked with any militia group. India and other nations (including the United States) recognize the Northern Alliance government (now overthrown) as the legitimate government in Afghanistan. That is the only link, if you choose to call it that.

What you failed to state is that Pakistan has been the breeding ground for most terrorist organizations that have been causing trouble in most countries in the region, including India, Russia and Israel. Of course, they have now struck the United States.

I would request you to please refrain from making such unsubstantiated statements especially those that paint an entirely wrong picture about any country.
