LONDON -- Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez and England soccer captain David Beckham have the best celebrity bodies in the world, according to a magazine poll which shows that curves and muscles are in and being thin is out.
Voluptuous Lopez, widely hailed as the sexiest singer alive, beat raven-haired Welsh actress Catherine Zeta Jones and former supermodel Elle "The Body" Macpherson in the 2001 poll published by Celebrity Bodies magazine.
William narrowly missed out on poll position, taking second place ahead of actor George Clooney, who shot to fame as a medic in the hit TV series ER.
"Jennifer Lopez has a sensational body, admired by men and women alike, and she proves that curves are more coveted than thinness," said Alison Hall, editor of Celebrity Bodies magazine which published the poll.
"And Beckham at the top of the male body league clearly shows that the fit, muscly, sporty look wins women over, especially with the youthful broad shouldered Prince William in second place and gorgeous hunk George Clooney in third."
Celebrity Bodies has come under attack since its launch earlier this year, with critics accusing it of encouraging women to think they need to be stick thin to be considered attractive.
Beckham's slimline Spice Girl wife Victoria scraped in to 50th position, while Hollywood hot couple Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were more evenly matched -- taking seventh and ninth positions respectively.
Youth won over age in the poll, with the top 50 women and all but a handful of the top 50 men aged under 40. The list of the 50 best male celebrity bodies in the world in 2001 includes 28 actors, eight singers, five television presenters, three soccer players, two models, one dancer, one chef and one tennis player. The women's list features 23 actresses, 15 models, 11 singers and one television presenter.
The poll surveyed 5,000 people with an average age of 30.
