Bin Truckin'

A German-speaking trucker was stopped at the Italian-Swiss frontier Sunday after Italian authorities were tipped to watch out for a truck that might be carrying explosives for use in a terror attack. The driver, unaware of the drama unfolding around him, uncomplainingly produced his papers, which were in German. Everything was fine until one of the eagle-eyed carbinieri spotted the word "laden" on the documents, at which point the hapless trucker was hauled in for questioning while sniffer dogs and terrorism police combed the truck. The German couldn't speak Italian and the Italians didn't understand German, or else they would have known that "laden," in German, means "load." It took 10 hours to straighten things out and get Fritzie back on the road. You know, the Europeans might want to rethink this whole "European Union" thing.
