Subject: Of Mixed Messages, Linux and XP
I am writing in response to the article "Of Mixed Messages, Linux and XP," October 31, 2001. Having used the Ximian Desktop over the last two weeks, I am glad I finally got KDE 2.2 up at home. About the only thing that Gnome or Ximian have over KDE is the ease of installation and the big deal that they make of KDE's use of the qt toolbox.
For me usability and functionality will win over the eye candy of Ximian – hands down. The Linux desktop is already here: KDE 2.2, Star Office 5.2 and a AMD K6/2-400 with 128Mb of RAM. Why do I need more? Why get screwed by MS? I left a year and a half ago and only need to use Windows at work. And I let the IT kids deal with the Blue Screens.
